In North Carolina, Bigge has been contracted to transport and set four transformers for a local utility company. The first transformer was received by rail, loaded onto a Goldhofer trailer, and then set using a Bigge Lock & Slide (BLS) and turntable system.
The eight line Goldhofer trailer that the 350,000 lb unit was transported on was set up with a ten meter drop deck insert. This insert lowered the transport's height, which increased the ease of travel by ensuring that all clearances en route would be met.
The transformer was secured to 15' sections of BLS rails so that once the unit was at its destination the trailer could be positioned next to the site's elevated foundation, where Lock & Slide rails had already been set up. Once there, the rails were synced together and the unit was then slid into place, rotated 180 degrees using the BLS turntable, and jacked down.
The process was completed ably and smoothly thanks to our trained and highly skilled craftsmen. Call Bigge today at 1-888-337-BIGGE or email us at info@bigge.com.

Bigge is proud to announce that we are assisting with the new Hetch Hetchy pipeline being built for the City of San Francisco. So far, Bigge has helped by lifting and setting a 70,000 lb piece of pre-fabricated concrete pipe.
The crane that was used for the lift was an LTM1220, configured with 163,000 lbs of counterweight and 86'of main boom. The job was performed with a two man rigging crew, and only took one day to complete. But because of a mix of factors that restricted maneuverability, including jobsite congestion and a confined workspace, Bigge had to devise a rigging system that would allow the load to be tripped without slippage.
For all of your hoisting requirements, call Bigge today for your next lift! 1-888-337-BIGGE or email us at info@bigge.com.

Recently, Bigge was responsible for transporting, lifting and setting heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) for a natural gas fired power plant. Bigge previously transported and offloaded the units at a nearby port. They were then moved from the port to the plant using a 10 dolly basket-trailer configuration.
The main crane used was a Manitowoc 2250 in a Max-Er configuration; with 240' of main boom. The tailing crane was a Liebherr LR1300SX with 125' of main boom. Lastly, the strong-back crane was a Liebherr LR1200SX with 164' of main boom.
These three cranes were working in unison to lift the units from a horizontal into a vertical position. From there, the Manitowoc 2250 then hoisted the HRSG units into their specific locations within the new power plant. The heaviest of the 8 units placed was 376,000 lbs.

Bigge has been assisting with the demolition of the original Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. The terminal is being replaced with what is being called the "Grand Central of the West," a new five-story transit center that will serve as the hub for regional public transportation.
We have been using a 265-ton LTM 1220 to hoist the I-beam cross sections that are part of the original structure. Over 36 support beams have been removed so far, each weighing between 48,000 to 72,000 lbs.
We are proud to be a part of yet another notable project within the city of San Francisco and look forward to when construction of the new terminal will begin.

CONEXPO 2011 featured over 2,000 exhibitors and product demonstrations, showcasing the latest equipment, services and technologies.
This year Bigge made history at CONEXPO by purchasing the first Tier IV crawler crane. The CK1100G Kobelco Crawler Crane has been added to the Bigge rental fleet and we are Kobelco's first customer for this particular model. Our early adoption of the Tier IV technology keeps us ahead of strict emission standards and keeps us at the forefront of our industry.
Kobelco has redesigned its crane fleet, upgrading and improving areas of safety, reliability and operational efficiency. As well, the engines are fully compliant with EPA Tier IV, offering up to 30 percent improved fuel consumption compared to older models.
This new Kobelco model has such a wide range of improved features. You can find out more about this crawler crane by visiting the following link: http://www.vertikal.net/en/news/story/12018/

Bigge recently used an AC500 all terrain crane to lift and set a 40,000 lb component for a major chemical company.
For a job like this Bigge would normally have used a two crane configuration, but the nearby power lines and a retaining wall obstructed the reach. Instead, Bigge opted to use the AC500 configured with 154' of main boom. This solution was both practical and cost effective, and allowed Bigge to complete the work on time.
Bigge excels at solving problems that may arise on the jobsite. With our skilled team of estimators and our project managers who work closely with each client—keeping them apprised of any developments—we can be counted on to complete any lifting or hauling requirements you may have.
