Position Description:

We are seeking a talented and capable Desktop Support Technician to join our growing IT team.

If you are our chosen candidate you will report to Bigge Crane and Rigging Co.’s CIO (Chief Information Officer).

Among your many important and urgent duties will be:

  • As an expert with software, assist end users with application usage questions, and give them pointers on how to more effectively leverage the Microsoft Office suite in performance of their duties
  • Identify, research and resolve technical issues with software, hardware
  • Prioritize multiple urgent requests based on urgency and business impact
  • Respond to telephone calls, email and face-to-face requests
  • Install, configure and deploy workstation hardware and software
  • Document, track and monitor problems using a ticketing system to ensure resolution
  • Maintain IT department supply and parts inventories, create supply requisitions and submit for approval
  • Create and maintain documentation of end-user systems and help articles
  • Create and present training sessions related to business applications and concepts
  • Keep IT manager apprised of project status and issues impacting their success
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and solutions for current or future business needs as directed
  • Other duties as directed

General Work and Equipment Description:

  • Work Schedule (typical)
    • Typically 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday
    • Weekend or late evening work when necessary
    • 24x7 availability for business emergencies
  • General Working Conditions
    • Majority of time at desk or local office environment
    • Occasional heavy lifting of objects up to 50 lbs
    • Occasional work in dirty and/or busy environments.
    • Occasional crawling, climbing around furniture and equipment, using ladders, working with overhead objects or other strenuous activity.
  • Description of Supported Equipment
    • Windows desktop operating systems
    • Desktop and Laptop Hardware
    • Productivity software including Microsoft Office, CRM, Accounting and others
    • Remote Access software and systems
    • Office equipment including laser printers, multi-function copiers
    • Office Voice and Data cabling and PBX phone systems

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert in Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to quickly learn new software versions, and pass on that knowledge to others
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP communications and troubleshooting techniques
  • IT Generalist able to effectively handle a very wide array of issues
  • Excellent problem solving and intuitive abilities
  • Minimum 3 years or equivalent of experience with desktop support in an active directory/exchange environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with hardware and software
  • A+, Net+ or MCP certification or equivalent
  • Able to perform self-directed work as well as supervised work handling rapidly changing projects and priorities
  • Familiarity with voice and data cabling
  • Good English written and verbal communications skills
