Position Description:

As the Operations Manager you will provide management and leadership of all project operations within Bigge Crane and Rigging Co. (BCR). You will also provide leadership and management of union labor relations for all BCR while closely coordinating with the Vice President of Major Products.

The OM contributes to estimates and proposal development and will own all budgets and schedules for the field portion of all BCR project work; overseeing that estimates are done in accordance with established policies and guidelines.

The OM will coordinate with all branches to assure the efficient and effective use of company resources (equipment and labor); while providing uncompromised leadership of work to the highest safety standards.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops and executes project work so as to meet agreed upon performance plans, budgets and schedules
  • Contributes to bids and projects
  • Assists and provides oversight and leadership of estimators in estimating projects
  • Participates in estimate approval in accordance with established policies and guidelines
  • Assures the preparation of project budgets for all CR jobs and manages them in accordance with established budgets
  • Maintains safety as the highest priority within operations
  • Assists with union negotiations
  • Handles overall management of labor and equipment for the MP Branches
  • Works with engineering to determine method and equipment to perform projects
  • Oversees billing of BCR projects and Project Managers, including extras assuring timely billing of all and extras in accordance with contract terms
  • Assists with negotiations of project contracts
  • Manages and Project Managers, Superintendents and field crews

Job-Related Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in project operations and management. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, other manager, craft supervision and a fleet of equipment
  • Strong hands-on field background with proven ability at the general foremen or superintendent level
  • A degree in construction management is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of cost basis estimating
  • Expert level knowledge of heavy lifting and heavy hauling technologies (mobile cranes, platform trailers, beam and dolly trailers; hydraulic lifts and gantries
  • Experience and knowledge of contracting; contract management and claim management; recovery including negotiation and claim strategy skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements (OSHA, Chemical/Refinery, Nuclear Power, etc.) and a strong safety culture and presence
