Position Description:

As the Bigge Project Engineer you will be a critical member of Bigge’s Major Projects Team. The Major Projects team is responsible for the planning and execution of highly specialized work related to the transportation and lifting of large components in support of power generation, petrochemical and heavy civil projects throughout the US. Such projects pose significant challenges that require precise planning and a high level of engineering expertise. Bigge’s engineering staff employs innovative design solutions for the handling of components that can weigh in excess of 1,000 tons and can be extremely sensitive.

Bigge engineers are responsible for the:

  • Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations and procedures related to the systems selected for the execution of project work
  • Development of designs for temporary structures and rigging systems that incorporate both new and existing Bigge fleet equipment to be used in the execution of heavy rigging projects
  • Development and oversight of load tests for new equipment
  • Supervision of drafting and other support staff assigned to them
  • Production of related execution and fabrication drawings

As a Bigge engineer you will interface with customers, Bigge project management and Bigge field supervision on a given project. As the Project Engineer you will be required to travel to project sites, on occasion, to oversee critical lifts and to gather site-related information to assist in the planning of project work.

This position offers the potential for significant upward mobility within the organization, over time. Bigge has offices located in California, Virginia and Washington with new locations being added frequently.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Desired Qualities:
  • To be a self starter and a team player
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to give clear direction to support staff and field personnel
  • Familiarity with a variety of construction methods
  • Ability to produce designs where constructability is a key consideration
Qualifications:
  • B.S. Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Current professional registration or ability to acquire professional registration within one year is required
Required skills:
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A functional knowledge of AutoCAD, with AutoDesk Inventor knowledge considered a plus
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software such as STAAD or RISA 3D or similar software applications
  • Familiarity with structural steel design is required
Experience:
  • 7-10 years experience in the design of structural steel and reinforced concrete
  • Design of temporary structures as well as experience working at a large construction site are considered desirable
  • Familiarity with rigging methods is also considered a plus, but is not required
