Terex Challenger 3160 Crane Overview and Specifications

The Terex Challenger 3160 is an all-terrain crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 55 tons. The maximum boom length is 164 feet.

When engineering the Challenger 3160, the Terex team focused on maneuverability. The steering is a dual circuit hydro servocom steering system with an emergency steering pump. The brake system is composed of a pneumatic dual circuit service brake with an antilock system acting on all wheels, disc brakes, an additional exhaust brake, a constant throttle valve, and a spring loaded parking brake. Redundant brakes ensure that even if one brake fails, the operator will be able to stop the crane and any hazardous situations that may arise.

Drive lights with options for low beam, upper beam, and daytime running lights give the operator the ability to see the jobsite and identify any potentially hazardous incidents. Cruise control is also included, in order to allow operators to focus on more important matters than maintaining a constant speed while traveling.

While the 3160 is maneuverable, it does not compromise on power. The Challenger 3160 is powered by a 326 horsepower Mercedes Tier IV compliant engine. This workhorse can complete any job thrown at it. The boom is a single cylinder telescoping system. 3 sheaves were integrated into the boom head during manufacturing. These sheaves allow for the boom to increase its maximum lift capacity. The 4 point design outriggers ensure the crane remains stationary while lifts take place.
