Link-Belt 218 HSL Crane Overview and Specifications

The Link-Belt 218 HSL is a crawler crane with a maximum lift capacity of 110 tons. The maximum boom length is 230 feet and a maximum jib length of 140 feet.

The engine of the 218 HSL is a Tier IV complaint Cummins QSB6.7 6‑cylinder engine. This engine has full pressure lubrication, an electric control shutdown, and is rated at 270 horsepower. The load hoist drums all contain an axial piston and a variable speed hydraulic motor with automatic winch motor brakes. A wet style multi-disc brake directs all power flow from its semi outboard mount on the output side of the planetary. By placing the disc brake on the output side, drag usually associated with the wet style brake can be limited. The disc brake also comes with a free fall operation mode in order to prevent load lowering when the free fall switch is activated accidentally.

The hydraulic pump system includes three variable displacement pumps and three fixed displacement gear types. This arrangement is conducive for complete control of the 218 HSL. The counterweight system is made up of four parts so that the crane can ship for each job with just the amount of counterweight it needs.

The Link-Belt 218 HSL is full of safety features. A rated capacity limiter system that aids in preparing for lifts, a rearview camera for the cab, and counterbalance valves that prevent accidental load drop and provide positive load lowering are just a few of the features the Link-Belt team added when constructing the 218 HSL.
