American HC 285 Crane Overview and Specifications

The Terex-American HC 285 is a crawler crane with a maximum lift capacity of 285 tons. The maximum boom length is 300 feet and the maximum jib length is 100 feet.

The deep box car body is made of fabricated steel. Square axles are constructed in the body for the crawler side frames and the precision machined top supports an anti friction bearing and a multiple pass hydraulic swivel joint. The crawlers are rigid fabricated structures, have a built in lubrication system, and have high alloy steel tumbler yokes.

The Terex HC 285 is powered by a Cummins QSL9. This diesel engine is rated at 350 horsepower, complies with Tier IV standards, and has a 180-galgallon fuel capacity to limit time wasted fueling up. The two identical main and auxiliary load hoisting drums provide enough power to complete each lift. Each drum has a power up/​down and load hoists are further controllable in stepless mode. There is enough work space in front of the drums for maintenance and running cables through.

The cab of the crane was designed with comfort and safety in mind. An air conditioning unit, ergonomically designed controls, and adjustable seating are just a few of the features included in the cab to keep the operator comfortable. A load moment indicator and an extra wide cab for easy viewing keep the operator and others on the jobsite safe.
