240 ton Refinery Vessel Moved from Salt Lake City to Southern California
Bigge has completed its 10 day, long distance haul transporting a 480,000 lb. refinery vessel across three states. The 16 vehicle convoy began in Salt Lake City, UT and traveled over 900 miles to its final destination at the Big West Refinery Expansion Project in Bakersfield, CA.
The beam and dolly transporters hauled the large refinery vessel in two 80' long x 17' diameter sections, weighing 240,000 lbs. each. The total length from nose to tail of each beam and dolly configuration with two prime movers stretched over 150 feet.
Bigge crews faced many challenging weather conditions while passing through mountain elevations as high as 7,000 feet, and had to travel alternative routes due to coordination issues with the Highway patrol in Utah, Nevada and California.
