Bigge Lifts and Sets Giant Refinery Module

Bigge recently transported and set a vacuum column at a refinery in Northern California. Bigge engineered the transportation and lift, mobilized the equipment and cranes, furnished experienced craft personnel and provided supervision for this critical lift.

The 95' long, 14' diameter, 70 ton column was transported to the jobsite using self- propelled Goldhofer hydraulic platform trailers split into six and four line units. Bolsters and swivels were mounted on top of the trailers to maneuver the large vessel through the limited access corridors of the new refinery unit.

The upending and setting operations shown in the photographs were accomplished using Bigge's Demag AC500, a 600 ton capacity all-terrain crane with a luffing jib, while tailing operations were handled by a Bigge 250 ton Link-Belt conventional truck crane.
