Giant Bridge Crane Girder Installation
This big yellow bridge crane girder arrived at a refinery in Northern California after a one month haul from Texas. The oversized girder, trailer and tractor configuration stretched 165' long, weighed over 275,000 lbs. and required multiple permits as it traveled across the country.
Bigge crews soon transloaded the unit onto a split hydraulic platform trailer configured with six self-propelled lines in the front and four lines in the rear. Each platform had mounted turntables that allowed the girder to be transported along a path with several tight, 90 degree turns into the construction site for installation.
