Bigge's Auburn, Washington branch recently hauled a 350,000 lb. transformer across the beautiful state of Washington to Priest Rapids Dam. Over the past couple of years, Bigge has delivered a total of five replacement transformers to this dam. The dam, located on the Columbia River, was built after severe floods in 1948.
The specialized 12-axle dual lane beam and dolly transporter was powered by two prime movers and completed the 75 mile journey in one day. The overall dimensions of the tractor and trailer combination were 200' long, 16' wide and 17' tall with a total weight of 567,000 lbs.
Among the special conditions that complicated the journey were weeks of permit planning, narrow roadways, multiple bridges and tight turns through the mountains.
