Lifting Alternative Energy

Bigge deployed a fleet of crawler, all terrain and conventional truck cranes to offload jumbo ships carrying wind turbine components to support wind farm projects across Northern California. The turbine components are imported from overseas.

Pictured from left to right are Bigge's 265 ton Liebherr LTM 1220 all terrain, 330 ton Liebherr LR1300 crawler, 250 ton Link-Belt HC268 conventional truck and 600 ton Demag AC500 all terrain cranes.

There were a total of 300 wind turbine components picked, including 225 wind blades 150' long and each weighing 22,000 lbs. and 75 Nacelles weighing approximately 158,000 lbs. each.

To unload the 150' wind blades, Bigge used a tandem swing method to maneuver the load off the jumbo ship and set directly onto a trailer ready for transport.
