An excellent example that illustrates Bigge’s comprehensive engineering, land transportation, marine transportation and heavy lift services was our 2006 work on the new San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. Bigge mobilized self-propelled, hydraulic platform trailers to transport the 2,000 ton bridge “tub” sections from the fabrication site in Vancouver, WA onto a barge. Upon arrival in San Francisco Bay, Bigge innovatively rotated the 2,000 ton sections 90 degrees on the “live” barge to achieve its lifting position. Bigge then raised the tub sections over 200 feet using our custom-engineered cantilever girders and computer controlled hydraulic strand jacks.
