Bigge Beats Thanksgiving Deadline to Deliver Chemical Plant Vessel
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) Bigge Crane and Rigging was recently hired to transport and deliver a large vessel from Irvine, CA to a Bay Area chemical plant. Complicating the job was that it had to be delivered Thanksgiving week, which meant Bigge only had three days to plan, transport, and deliver the vessel before the holiday oversize load restrictions would shut down the Bigge transporter.
Another wrinkle was that Bigge was contacted only a day before the holiday week after another trucking company bailed out because they couldn’t meet the plant’s strict time schedule. Almost immediately, Bigge was able to mobilize a RGN double-drop stretch trailer, which was hauled using a three-axle sleeper truck to pick up the 93 foot, 17’ diameter vessel. Because of its experience in time sensitive long-haul operations, Bigge was able to get the move permitted and transported in just under two days.
After arriving to the plant on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Bigge set the vessel the next day using a Demag AC500 600-ton capacity mobile crane, allowing deliveries to the plant by rail to resume the following Monday. "Working with Bigge Crane on this incredibly difficult project was a pleasure. They outshined any competition in their class." said the project manager, "In the toughest of situations, needing a tank delivered to us before a holiday deadline, they jumped in, took charge, and had the tank here before the original trucking company had even planned to leave town."
