Scope:
Bigge Power Constructors, as subcontractor to Consumers Energy, performed the following nuclear power plant decommissioning work involving heavy lift and heavy transportation.
- Engineered solutions for the spent fuel removal and dry cask storage
- Removed the original single leg gantry and hoist over the spent fuel pool and RPV
- Installed specialized Bigge designed lifting equipment
- Supplied a licensed, single failure proof hoist for spent fuel removal
- Removed the 120 ton Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) through a Containment opening
Job Challenges:
Bigge Constructors successfully dealt with the following challenges on this project.
- Three year project furnishing engineering, equipment, field technical supervision, and labor for single failure proof hoist system in Containment
- Removal of the 120 ton RPV through a Containment opening and to on site storage
