Scope:
Bigge Power Constructors, as subcontractor to PGE, performed the following nuclear steam generator (SG) work involving heavy lift and heavy transportation.
- Engineered solutions to the SG lifts and transport
- Installed specialized Bigge SG handling equipment in Containment
- Lifted and removed four existing 400-ton SG’s from Containment
- Transported SG’s to barge (barging by PGE)
- Offloaded barge at Hanford Reservation in Washington state and transported SG’s
Job Challenges:
Bigge Power Constructors successfully dealt with the following challenges on this project.
- Handling of four SG’s, a total of 1,600 tons
- Engineering unique solutions including an up-ending cart, a gantry and platform for the elevated equipment hatch, and a through-hatch runway system
- A 30-mile platform trailer transportation at the Hanford Reservation
