Scope:
Bigge as subcontractor to Bechtel Power performed the following nuclear power plant steam system new plant construction work involving heavy lifting and heavy transportation. Bigge handled the General Electric BWR Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV), and RPV Head.
- Engineered unique solutions for transportation
- Removed the RPV and Head from their delivery barge
- Moved the RPV on the Hope Creek site using a roller system approach
Job Challenges:
Bigge Constructors successfully dealt with the following challenges on this project.
- Handling of the RPV (900 tons) and the RPV Head (115 tons)
- Mooring barge for off loading in ice jam conditions in January 1976
- Engineering unique solution for the transportation of the components
