Scope:
Bigge Power Constructors, as subcontractor to Framatome ANP, performed the following nuclear reactor vessel head (RVH) replacement work involving heavy lift and heavy transportation.
- Engineered and fabricated a lifting and skidding device to move the RV head
- Removed the existing TMI RVH
- Handled the RVH with tight clearances to the Containment equipment hatch
- Installed specialized Bigge lifting equipment in Containment
- Moved into Containment and set the approximately 100 ton replacement TMI RVH
Job Challenges:
Bigge Constructors successfully dealt with the following challenges on this project.
- Engineering unique solution for this bare (without CRDM’s) RVH replacement
- Containment hatch opening only allowed tight clearances to the RV head
