Bigge Cranes Operate at Warriors Chase Center in San Francisco

Apr 24 2018

Hard at work on the waterfront of San Francisco Bay, Bigge’s cranes are in service during the construction of the Chase Center, a multi-purpose arena, and future home of the Golden State Warriors. This landmark project represents the latest facet of development occurring in San Francisco’s Mission Bay area. The Chase Center will serve as a destination for world-class sports, entertainment, dining, retail and commercial use, hosting some of the world’s most innovative companies in a vibrant and lively urban waterfront setting.

Since contracting, Bigge has been providing construction equipment for the building of this arena. The first of the project’s tower cranes was erected in June of 2017, a Potain MD 689 M40 Hammerhead, outfitted with 262 feet of jib. Over the next several months, four Comedil CTT 721-40 flat top tower cranes were assembled, and put into daily use to move materials throughout the job site. In addition, operating in the center of the main structure are two crawlers from Bigge’s mobile fleet: both Manitowoc 16000s, outfitted with 157’ feet of main boom, 98’ feet of jib, and a total of 452,000 pounds of counterweight each.

With construction extending into 2019, these seven cranes will perform the lion’s share of lifting and setting of structural steel and concrete forms, along with a variety of components, machinery, and materials necessary for completion of this new facility. Bigge expects to send in more specialized equipment as the project moves forward in the coming months.
