Manitowoc 4600 Series 1 Crane Overview and Specifications

The Manitowoc 4600 Series 1 dragline crawler crane features a No.40 boom with a maximum length of 140 feet made of all welded steel construction with inverted-angle chords and tubular lacings. A wire rope guide is mounted on the top side of the boom. One fleeting sheave is in place for the dragline and two for the clamshells with antifriction bearing.

The 4600 Series 1 features a high-power Cummins KTA·1150·C525 Diesel, 6 cylinder engine, powering out 431 @ 2,000 . A single diesel fuel tank holds 910 to ensure high efficiency and long working hours. The carbody is composed of a one-piece, ribbed steel fabrication with integral side wings. Side wings transmit loads directly to crawler side frames, eliminating axles and providing lower center of gravity.

The crawlers are controlled by various operating control handles, allowing for a variety of traveling actions and fast traveling speed; which allow the crane to drive up 30% grade terrain. Front and rear drum assemblies have heat-treated alloy steel drum shafts with antifriction bearing mountings. Front drum used for holding line on clamshell or hoist on dragline. Rear drum is used for closing line on clamshell or drag on dragline. When using for dragline service, the rear drum has a clutch and sprocket for dragline interlock.

The cab is a fully enclosed and insulated steel module with large safety glass windows. The 4600 uses graduated air controls for main functions with standard two-engine power system. The Manitowoc 4600 is also designed for easy transportation and minimal set up time. The chassis is shipped with complete king pins and roller path. The crawlers are transported as finished assemblies, designed to be installed with ease.
