American 8460 Crane Overview and Specifications
The American 8460 is a truck crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 165 tons. It has a maximum boom length of 280 feet and a maximum jib length of 100 feet.
Powering the 8460 is a Detroit 8V-71N diesel engine. This 8‑cylinder engine pushes the 8460 45 miles per hour and is rated at 268 horsepower and drives through a dry clutch and gearbox to hydrostatic pumps. A 120-galgallon fuel tank lets the 8460 keep working for hours without the need to fuel up. The suspension system is a Hendrickson solid mount with rubber bushed torque rods.
The counterweight system is made up of lower castings weighing 30,000 pounds and the additional castings of 38,000 pounds totaling 68,000 pounds of counterweight. The counterweights are removed hydraulically and extend onto the ramps provided by the carrier.
