The boom of the Tadano ATF 220 G-5 is a seven-section boom made of high tensile fine-grained steel. There are 6 telescoping sections that extend with a single telescoping cylinder and a base section. 7 sheaves are added to the boom head to increase stability and power. The outrigger system is made up of four point double telescopic hydraulic outriggers. They are fitted on an asymmetric outrigger base and have automatic length detection. The outriggers can be controlled on either side of the carrier or in the cab.
The carrier of the Tadano ATF 220 G-5 is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 471 LA engine. This 6-cylinder diesel engine has a fuel tank of 159 gallons and is rated at 530 horsepower. The ZF-AS-Tronic 12 AS 2351 transmission system includes an electro pneumatically operated dry type clutch and an automatic gear shifter. Twelve forward speeds and two reverse speeds allow for control over the crane.
