STATEMENT REGARDING CAMP FIRE RECOVERY INCIDENT
FROM RANDY SMITH, CORPORATE COUNSEL
BIGGE CRANE AND RIGGING CO.
December 17, 2018
We learned this weekend of a disturbing incident that transpired on one of our job sites, an incident that violates our company culture, policies and all that Bigge Crane and Rigging Co. stands for as a company.
Three company employees were terminated immediately as a result of intolerable and reprehensible actions in the fire-scarred Paradise, California, recovery area. Highly irresponsible photos and texts were posted by these individuals on social media which mocked the area’s victims and the terrible catastrophe that befell that community. The posts went viral and were covered in the media. We expressed – and express again – our deepest regrets to the residents of Paradise and Butte County who were egregiously insulted during an already devastating time at the hands of these three individuals.
This incident is an affront to all of the honest, hard-working, responsible and caring employees of Bigge Crane and Rigging Co. and does not reflect our heartfelt values or the spirit that built this company over the last 102 years. We will continue supporting the region through our work in recovery efforts, and we are proud of the employee and corporate donations made to date in support of Camp Fire victims.
While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have asked our employees to respond with any further information about this situation.
We emphasize that Bigge expects its employees and contractors to work with the utmost integrity and professionalism, in the field, in the office and on social media. Any behavior counter to these standards could be cause for termination.
